STCU Delegation meets with the Authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to discuss the project “Bio-safety and bio-security Improvement at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol” Implementation

On 10 August 2011, a range of meetings of the STCU delegation with officials of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was held within the framework of the implementation of the project “Bio-safety and bio-security Improvement at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol” started on 1st of August.

In particular, STCU met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea V. Konstantinov and Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Resorts and Tourism G. Psarov.

The Science and Technology Center in Ukraine was presented by the Senior Deputy Executive Director Igor Lytvynov, Deputy Executive Director (from the European Union) Michel Zayet, Senior Specialist Vlada Pashynska and Assistant of the EU DED Olga Panchenko. The technical expert of the project from EU, Director of the Military Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (Poland) Janusz Kocik also participated in the meetings.

The sides discussed the beginning of the “Bio-safety and bio-security Improvement at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol” project implementation in Ukraine and the cooperation between the STCU and Crimea Authorities in the framework of the project.

Also at the meetings were present the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea G. Ioffe, Head of the Permanent Committee on Social, Health and Veterans issues P. Zaporozhets, the Mayor of Simferopol V. Ageev, Head of the Ukrainian Anti-plague station A. Khaytovych, representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

During the meeting Speaker of the Parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea V. Konstantinov said that realization of the project aimed to improve the biosafety and biosecurity systems on the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol will help create a facility that will fully meets international standards.

In turn, I. Lytvynov said that establishing such a facility will also enable its use as an international training center. The project results will also contribute to the improvement of biosafety situation in the Region and provide better environmental conditions for Crimea population and tourists. According to I. Lytvynov, project implementation will require support from the officials of Autonomy and Simferopol City in the questions of allocation of land, design and construction of new facility for the state institution "Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

V. Konstantinov noted, that a profile commission of the Simferopol City Council tentatively agreed to develop the city-planning ground rationale in the area of one hectare. Now, it is necessary to prepare the documents for land use in accordance with existing legislation and submit it for approval to the Simferopol City Council.

Head of the Crimean Parliament underlined that Autonomy is ready for cooperation and project implementation. "Taking into account that this issue is a national priority, we will provide necessary assistance", - said V. Konstantinov.
