2nd CBRN Symposium Berlin

Held in Berlin, Germany, on 22-24 October 2012, the 2nd CBRN Symposium was organized by the Centre for Studies and Conferences of the German Association for Defence Technology with the Federal Ministries of the Interior, of Defence, and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance.

The objective of the event was to create a platform to exchange on capability development, presenting a wide range of interesting topics in a comprehensive manner. These included CBRN Policy Security aspects, challenges to civil and military defence and the various national approaches and international coordination efforts deployed.

Dr. Kristalina Gueogieva, European Commission Commissioner for
International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, attended and underlined the importance of EU-wide civil protection cooperation on dangerous materials. The Commissioner addressed the International Symposium on Development of CBRN-Defence Capabilities and reminded the growing efforts directed at enhancing the Risk Assessment capabilities with improved inter-EU Member States cooperation.

The Berlin Conference turned out as as a positive place to develop a constructive dialogue with participants, testing among other plans, the idea to conduct jointly in Kiev, a Regional Conference on WMD Expertise Redirection where our Centre would expose its know-how to a selected audience of countries.
