STCU participated at the 16-the Annual Conference of the European Biosafety Association

On 17-20 June, 2013 the Ukrainian bioexperts delegation supported by the STCU participated at the 16-the Annual Conference of the European Biosafety Association “Biosafety in Changing World”, Basel, Switzerland. The STCU delegation consisted of the specialists of Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station (UAPS) of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine: Dr. Liliya Zinich, Dr. Nikolay Shvarsalon and Mrs. Nadiya Pidchenko and the STCU biospecialist Dr. Vlada Pashynska.
The UAPS participants presented a report “Access Control System at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station” described the results of the STCU project 9801 “Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station - Securing Existing Facility to Improve Biosecurity Level “.To improve biosecurity at the UAPS the modern video survellence and access control systems have been developed and installed in the facility in accordance with the recommendations of European Biosecurity Experts in the framework of 9801 project. Today the access control system at the UAPS is in a good agreement with the modern international and national requirements in the area, which was confirmed by the international bioexperts during the poster presentation and discussions. The STCU delegates took also an active part in the advanced pre-conferences trainings in biosafety&biosecurity, in particular in the courses “Emergency preparedness and response & incident and accident investigation” and “Fundamentals of laboratory decontamination”.A number of collaborative contacts of the UAPS and STCU specialists with foreign colleagues have been established with the purpose of the following training of the UAPS staff at the advanced EU laboratories in the framework of the STCU project “Biosafety and Biosecurity Improvement at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol”.
