PRESS RELEASE



On 11 of September 2013 the regular Contact Group Meeting (CGM) within the framework of implementation of the project “Bio-safety and Bio-security Improvement at the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station in Simferopol” (STCU projects 9800-9804) was held in Kiev at the STCU Head Office. The CGM round-table discussion of the project progress and problems joined the following participants: Mr. J. Galabru, Expert of European Commission DG DEVCO; the specialists of the Ukrainian Anti-Plague Station (UAPS) headed by the Director Prof. A. Khaytovich; the project technical experts from the Military Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology (MIHE, Poland) - Director Col. Dr. J. Kocik, Deputy Director L. Col. Dr. Marcin Niemcewicz, Technical Expert Jacek Woicicki, STCU DED (EU) Mr. M. Zayet, STCU Senior Specialist Dr. V. Pashynska.

In the framework of the discussion the representatives of the project stakeholders noted significant progress in the project implementation: the procedure of legalization of the land plot for construction of the new UAPS facility has been completed and the UAPS rights of the permanent usage of the land lot has been officially registered in the Public register of the rights on estate property of Ukraine on 21.06.13; the tender to select a supplier of the service on development of conceptual design of the new UAPS facility have been performed in the period of 08.06-05.09.2013 by the STCU specialists and the project team; the meeting of the Tender Evaluating Committee of the Conceptual design tender took place on 09-10.09.2013; the long-term trainings of UAPS staff in biosafety has been successfully continued in 2013 on the basis of MIHE (Poland), etc.

The current project problems related to the installation of the diesel generator on the existing UAPS facility, payments of the STCU grants to the UAPS specialists, next year training plans, including prolongation of the UAPS staff training in English, etc. have been discussed effectively.
In summery it was stated that the project entered into one of the most significant project stage –Development of the design of the new UAPS facility.
