Research Vetting, Knowledge Security and Individual Cybersecurity Training for Ukrainian Researchers

The International Science and Technology Center (the ISTC) is pleased to announce open registration for a hybrid two-day training course entitled “Research Vetting, Knowledge Security and Individual Cybersecurity Training for Ukrainian Researchers” to be held in Poland, in September this year. This course is intended for Ukrainian scientists, technicians, engineers (STEs) and managerial staff with dual-use relevant expertise from research institutes and universities in Ukraine. This session in September will specifically focus on scientists with expertise in materials science, aeronautics, and related fields and examples in the practical sessions will draw from these disciplines. The course will be organized by the ISTC jointly with the U.S. organization Coalescion. This course will strengthen the participants’ skills in research vetting, knowledge security, responsible science, individual cybersecurity, and intellectual property protection to protect sensitive knowledge from unwitting disclosure to proliferator states or other malign actors.
The training course will comprise topics such as: research vetting and due diligence, responsible science, intellectual property protection with an emphasis on knowledge in intangible form (residing in a scientist’s head), knowledge security best practices for protecting sensitive knowledge in displaced circumstances; social engineering; individual cyber hygiene; real-life incidents and impact; best practices for vetting research partners, strengthening knowledge security, and controlling intangible technological transfers and practical techniques to strengthen researchers` safety and security in cyberspace. The courses will consist of lectures and practical sessions. You can join the course in-person or in virtual format from your office or home. All expenses of the in-person participation will be covered by the ISTC.
