First Ukrainian Conference on Nanosystems
52/49412 Oct 2004 - 22 Dec 2004
On October 12-14, 2004 the first Ukrainian Conference on Nanosystems: the Electronic, Atomic Structure and its Characteristics was held in conjunction with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine at the Kurdyumov Institute of Metal Physics in Kiev. This was the first specialized conference on nano-issues to be held in Ukraine and saw the participation of numerous outstanding individuals working in the sphere of nanosystems from Ukraine as well as from other CIS countries. The STCU has been proudly cooperating with the Kuryumov Institute of Metal Physics for a considerable amount of time by financing a number of projects in the area of nanosystems.
According to the institute's Director and Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences, Academician Anatoliy Shpak, "the XXI century is one in which nanostructure materials and nanotechnologies will play a key role."
Dr. Shpak added that regardless of the low level of financing of research in the area of nanotechnologies compared to some Western countries, Ukraine's capabilities remain at a high level.
