On May 23-25, 2006, the Second Annual “CNCP - Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan” Conference, sponsored by the U.K. DTI, was held in Alushta, at Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology.
The Close Nuclear Centers Program (CNCP) of the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) aims to limit the spread of weapons of mass destruction by promoting sustainable civil sector employment for former nuclear weapons scientists in the countries of the CIS. Since August 2004 CNCP in cooperation with the STCU contributed over 900,000 USD to create more than 100 new employments, including over 60 for former nuclear weapons scientists in Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
CNCP DTI delegation was headed by Mr. Trevor J. Hayward, Assistant Director - 'Global Partnership’, XNP International Nuclear Policy and Programs Directorate, UK Department of Trade and Industry. Mr. Trevor J. Hayward made a speech “Global Partnership and Nuclear Expertise Nonproliferation”.
Representatives of CNCP DTI, STCU, ISTC and CIS organizations attended the Conference and shared their experience in nonproliferation and assistance in sustainability development of scientists.
