The International Conference for Central and Eastern Europe, Balkans, Caucasus and Baltic States on

The International Conference for Central and Eastern Europe, Balkans, Caucasus and Baltic States on "Science and Education Policies" was held in Chisinau, 18th – 21st September 2008. The event was organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Ministry of Education and Youth of the Republic of Moldova and brought together leaders and policy makers at the highest levels in science and education from across the region as well as representatives of the European Commission.

The agenda focused on a variety of topics, including:
• Strengthening international impact of national research and education policies
• Developing a knowledge-based economy
• Stemming and reversing brain drain.

Dr. Landis Henry STCU Deputy Director (Canada) made a presentation on how the programmes at the Centre have played an important role in stemming brain drain in the former Soviet Union.
