Meeting with the Technology Transfer Center of Georgia

In April, 2014 Vic Korsun, Deputy Executive Director (US) met the Executive Director of the Technology Transfer Center of Georgia, Mr. Goga Kvaratskhelia and with Ms. Tamta Sharashenidze to discuss STCU transformational changes, STCU’s Partner program, and recommendations for scientific and educational leadership in Georgia through technology transfer, commercialization and start-up companies.

Discussions were fruitful. They were very supportive of the work that STCU is doing in Georgia to support science development and to promote innovation. TTCG was instrumental in organizing the Seminar at Tbilisi State University where they invited more than 100 scientists and policy makers of Georgia.

The Technology Transfer Center Georgia
The Technology Transfer Center Georgia (TTCG) was founded in September 2012 to provide technical support and business assistance to Georgian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the aim to improve their access to technologies and thereby increase their efficiency. At the same time TTCG offers essential services for the commercialization of technologies and inventions developed by academia and research institutions in Georgia. TTCG promotes the collaboration among international and local research institutions and SMEs.
TTCG Mission: To increase the awareness on technology transfer issues, promote the innovation culture in Georgia and increase the competitiveness of SMEs.
Objective: To respond to the technological needs of SMEs, facilitate the technology transfer from research to industry, match SMEs’ demand with international and local R&D and know-how.
Target Group: Small & medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) & applied research-oriented entities.
Services:
• Technology audit: assessment of the potential technological improvement of the company
• Technology matching: connecting MSMEs with technology providers
• Technical assistance: organization of the process of know-how transfer
• Access to local and international patent databases and consultation on specific patents
• Negotiations with technology providers and drafting licensing contracts
• Workshops and trainings to promote technological development
The Technology Transfer Center of Georgia (TTCG) was created by 5 Georgian universities, Sakpatenti, Georgia’s Patent Office, and private organizations.

TTCG’s founders are representatives from three sectors: Government, Business and Academia.
