Report on Informative Information Session at the Nuclear Research Department for Physics and Chemistry Students from Baku State University

On June 25, 2023, the Nuclear Research Department of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA NRD) conducted a preparatory meeting for the upcoming "Nuclear Forensic Summer School”, which is part of the STCU’s Nuclear Forensics project, funded by the European Commission and the US Department of Energy. The meeting was specifically held for students from Baku State University and aimed to provide information about analytical methods and devices used in nuclear sciences and radiation technologies. The event also included a practical demonstration of these analytical methods to assess their alignment with the Summer School agenda.

The information session was attended by 16 students from Baku State University, 2 students from Azerbaijan State Petroleum and Industry University, and 2 students from the Ministry of Science and Education's Institute of Radiation Problems, who will all be participating in the "Nuclear Forensic Summer School."

During the session, the students received detailed information about the IDDA NRD's activities, both within the country and through international collaborations. They were also informed about radiological and radioecological scientific research carried out in recently liberated territories. The Nuclear Forensic Summer School, scheduled for September 13-15, 2023, will take place at the IDDA NRD and the Institute of Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It is designed for senior students from science faculties in Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova. The students attending the information session were encouraged to participate in the summer school.

The students were presented with various topics, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical information on nuclear and radiation technologies employed in the departments and laboratories of the IDDA NRD. These topics included:

* HSE and radiation safety regulations
* Information on IDDA NRD's activities
* Detection and analysis of nuclear and radioactive materials
* Nuclear forensics
* Introduction to modern nuclear spectral analytical measurement methods and innovative devices
* Introduction to radiation technologies and gamma sterilization devices
* Innovative practical exercises
* Rules and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency
* Reviewing feedback on the informative information session

An excursion was organized for the students to visit the nuclear and radioactive substances analysis laboratories of the IDDA NRD, as well as the Gamma Irradiation Facility for Sterilization. Additionally, during the preparation period for the "Nuclear Forensic Summer School," the students actively participated in practical studies, guided by nuclear specialists from the Nuclear Research Department. These studies involved using devices to search, locate, and identify the radioisotope composition of radioactive materials.

At the end of the session, an interactive survey was conducted to gauge the students' interest in working with nuclear and radiation technologies in our country, as well as to gather their opinions on the informative information session.
